Instructions to Authors

The Journal of the Soil Science Society of Sri Lanka is published annually. The following guidelines should be followed when submitting papers.

1. General

The author or the senior author (in multiple author papers) should be a member of the Soil Science Society of Sri Lanka. All papers except invited papers should be based on original research carried out by the author(s) and should not have been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. Manuscripts should be submitted in duplicate to – The Editor, Soil Science Society of Sri Lanka, 120/10, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 07. After acceptance of the paper, an electronic version should be submitted in Microsoft Word in the Journal format described below:

Language

Style & Content – Manuscript should be written in English in a straightforward style. Use simple sentence structure. Try to avoid long sentence and complex sentence structures. Use common and basic vocabulary. Briefly define or explain all technical terms. Explain all acronyms the first time they are used in your text –
e.g., “Soil Science Society of Sri Lanka (SSSSL)”.

Page layout – For pages other than the first page, start at the top of the page, in double-column format with right margins justified, single spacing, Top, Bottom, Right and Left Margins – 1.5”, and Font – Times New Roman.

Layout of paper – All papers other than review papers should have an Abstract (about 100 words), Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments, References (in journal style).

Figures & Tables – Should be inserted at the appropriate point of the text either in the top or bottom of the page, and may extend over the two columns.
